CarrotMob Finland, a.ka. Porkkanamafia, proceeded with it’s first ever Finnish strike last Saturday. The target was a restaurant and bar called Juttutupa, situated close to central Helsinki.
Restaurant Juttutupa had promised to invest 51% of the additional revenues from a normal saturday evening in improving it’s energy efficiency. This will be done together with energy consumption specialists provided by CarrotMob Finland.
As a result of the event, hundreds of people were lining to get in Juttutupa on Saturday. Everyone were in a good mood and enjoyed the positive way of supporting anti-climate change movement. It’s not quite common to listen to a group of people seriously thinking about how they could spend more of their own money in this restaurant!
Total of €3362,94 (around US$5000) from the revenue will be used for the improvements. Preliminary talks indivacate that the money should be used for replacing the several dozen light pulbs with energy saving ones and replacing the kitchen equipment with more environmental ones. Also, some kitchen process improvements will be made in order to be more efficient.
The event gathered a major coverage from most of national and local media, including Helsingin Sanomat (#1 newspaper in Finland), all major TV news channels and numerous other publications.
