RunToShop – Office nomad host company for June!

Posted by Janne Saarikko on June 5, 2009

The announcement of June host company was delayed slightly due to many small things, including people traveling.

I managed to agree that RunToShop is the host company for June, starting from Monday. Thanks guys for agile moves!

Run is a place where consumers find the products their peers love and where buying is made easy by offering the most relevant and personal recommendations. Run brings tools for extending online shopping to communities where people already are deeply involved in. Users in Run will be rewarded for their efforts.

Run is located neatly in the very new Technopolis Ruoholahti in Hiilikatu 3, Helsinki. The building is packed with startups such as RunToShop and Muxlim.

I’ll be doing some things related to Run during this month, just watch your surroundings. 😉

Tramterview with Francois Castel

Posted by Janne Saarikko on June 2, 2009

I did an exception to do a Tramterview without the tram part. I met today with Francois Castel, a Frenchman living in Finland. Francois is working on issues related to diversity in Finland.

If you are interested in diversity and working policy, I can help you get in touch with him.

Following Ekana videos through this blog

Posted by Janne Saarikko on May 27, 2009

I just added a possibility to follow the latest qik.com videos from the sidebar of this site. It’s located on the right hand sidebar.

[qik user=”saarikko” width=”425″ height=”319″]

I quite ofter take my Nokia E71 from my pocket and start broadcasting. It may be something I see, a new idea or meeting someone interesting.  If you happen to visit the site while I’m doing live streaming, it will be available live. Otherwise, the latest broadcast is viewable.

Any comments on those videos are welcome, since I’m testing how ad hoc reporting really works.

Enjoy!

Sweden Social Web Camp is going forward

Posted by Janne Saarikko on May 18, 2009

I wrote earlier about this great idea in Sweden. Arranging a camp outside of the city, packed with social media people.

It seems that the whole event is going forward. If you are interested in attending, please read more about the event SSWC or Webstock as some call it.

Should there be people going from Finland, please comment to this post. We could arrange transportation together to make it more fun.

Nordic Social Media has a backup plan for the swine flu

Posted by Janne Saarikko on April 27, 2009

It seems that there might be some pandemic panicing in the air. Social media fans in northern Europe and especially in Sweden are not to be afraid.

Thomas Wennström of What’s Next blog in Sweden came up with an idea of Sweden Social Web Camp. After the publication of the idea on April 22nd, large number of people have showed interest for this event. The main blog post alone has 95 comments, mostly from people signing up for the event.

The idea of Sweden Social Web Camp is to take advantage of the warm nightless summer of norther Europe by taking people away from their city dwellings to the nature, by the water. With social media people this would mean lot of innovation and new ideas.

Translation from the event description (original in Swedish):

We’ll meet by a quiet lake, beautiful sea or a red cottage. And talk about social web. Some activities are pre-plannes, but mostly the agenda will be up to the ones that show up. Ideas, you should bring with you. Demo your latest project. Start a discussion about something you are pondering upon.

Everything barefooted holding to a cold beer in the sunset. Chatting by the fire when it gets dark.

I must say I immediately showed interest towards the event. They are now trying to figure out the location in Sweden. I read that besides Finland (we were warmly welcomed!) also Denmark has been curious about the whole thing.

Now, this is a great backup plan, should the swine flu become a pandemia. And otherwise as well!

Interested? Comment in this post or directly to the original blog post.

Frantic is the Host Company for May 2009 & Help Wanted

Posted by Janne Saarikko on April 22, 2009

This whole Office Nomad thing has been a surprising ride. When I figured out how the whole thing would work, I was preparing to do some months from my home office. Little did I know.

There has been so many companies wanting to have me as an Office Nomad! Thank you everyone for your interest.

After some painful pondering, I decided to go with the first company that approached me seriously.

And that company is Frantic, a full service digital agency in Helsinki. That’s where I will be spending the month of May, after I leave the offices of Codento.

I am very excited about this opportunity. I have actually been a customer of Frantic few years back, I don’t know if they remember me from that.

There will be more data on Frantic in May. In the meantime, I’m collecting stuff on Codento, photos and videos on their way!

Help wanted: Currently, I have many candidates for June and the following months. I would appreciate any comments on how to make a selection between all these? We are talking startups, marketing agencies, public organisations, associations, technology companies… I don’t want to start charging for this, since it’s not the idea. The idea is to exchange experiences and learn new things.

Nokia Piloting Shopping Mall Mobile Applications

Posted by Janne Saarikko on April 21, 2009

I was walking back from a customer meeting through Kamppi mall in Helsinki, when I noticed a stand with Nokia Research Center logo.

I started streaming with my E71 and walked in for this interview

[qik url=”http://www.qik.com/video/1515680″ width=”425″ height=”319″]

The interview is in Finnish only, and here’s a short description of key points.

Nokia Research Center is piloting mobile shopping catalogue with WLAN-based location services. The application gives you details onshops and special promotions. Eventually you will be able to login with your Facebook credentials and share your location with your friends within the mall.

Since GPS are not functional inside, the mall is using a network of WLAN access points to figure out where you and your people are.

Very interesting indeed.

Tramterview with Kai Lemmetty of Floobs

Posted by Janne Saarikko on April 20, 2009

This is the latest tramterview from last Friday. I was taking a tram to YLE (Finnish BBC) strategy seminar and Kai Lemmetty of Floobs was riding with me.

In this short tramterview he talks about what Floobs is up to nowadays, tells me about the cool things they do with soccer leagues such as Spanish premier league La Liga  in Europe .

[qik url=”http://www.qik.com/video/1479612″ width=”425″ height=”319″]

The audio quality is not the best, I’ll have to work on that to improve it. E71 works perfectly in doing these ad hoc clips, but still looking forward to see N97 enter the market.

Who would you like to see tramterviewed? There are lot of interesting people in Helsinki, and I see most of them quite often. If you would like to see and hear your online contact, let me know and I’ll catch a tram with them!
